The WGRZ article covers how there was a video that appears to show Deputy Commissioner Craig Macy shoving a black woman on Chippewa St. The Instagram account Buffalo 4KTV captured it.
From the look of the video where I don’t think there was audio on it, it shows the Deputy Commissioner going out of the way to push the individual. Because there was no audio, she may have made a comment that caused him to push her, but even so, this action seems quite uncalled for for a person in his position on someone who isn’t really in a crowd control situation.
Given the recent shootings over Independence Day Weekend where 11 people were injured, tensions may be running a little higher between the police and the public perhaps leading to the incident.
Still, knowing that the streets around Chippewa can get a little rowdy, it wouldn’t surprise me if the police were trying to calm things down and aren’t really the best at doing so, leading to this shove.
Buffalo could really stand to have an improved Entertainment District, because shenanigans like this and the police reaction often can lead people from oter districts in the city and people from the suburbs to view the ‘nightlife scene’ as dysfunctional and not really glamorous at all.
